Hello Washington Families! We are all so excited to welcome our students into our Caring School Community for the 2025-26 school year on Tuesday, September 2nd! Mailings will be going out to families on Tuesday with many documents to help you be prepared for the school year, including teacher placements. Please review all these documents carefully! Please remember that student placement is a complex process that we take very seriously. Requests for changes will not be honored. Young Fives and Kindergarten students, and their families, are invited to attend our Popsicle Picnic on Tuesday, August 19th from 6pm-7pm. Please see here for additional details. Please make sure you have marked your calendars for our building wide Open House on Wednesday, August 27th from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Students will have the opportunity to meet their teacher, see their classroom, reconnect with friends they haven’t seen over the summer, and meet new ones! Please feel free to bring any school supplies you would like to drop off so your child doesn’t have to carry them on the first day of school. We are happy to welcome three new staff members to our teaching staff this year, Mrs Shannen Majhor, Mrs Alayna Medley, and Mrs Lauren Kasper. Mrs Majhor is joining us as our school social worker, Mrs Medley will be teaching Kindergarten, and Mrs Kasper is a special education paraprofessional. All of these experienced and qualified educators are excited to welcome students and become a part of our Caring School Community. In addition, Mrs Loeding, our PM Health Aide has retired, and Ms Diana Piejak will be joining us full time to support our students with health and medical needs. One free breakfast and one free lunch each day is again available to start the school 2025-26 school year thanks to Michigan School Meals funding! Seconds will not be available for students. Families will need to complete an Education Benefits Form, as this can qualify your student and our school for additional benefits! Please visit https://romeo.familyportal.cloud and click "apply for benefits." Students will indicate to their teacher each morning upon arrival if they are ordering a school breakfast and/or school lunch. Breakfast and lunch menus will be available on www.romeok12.org under “Lunch Menus” at the top of the home page and are included in the Washington Weekly. Families interested in participating in (formerly Blessings in a Backpack) will need to complete the Sharing Benefits form. Important: While we anticipate this program continuing through the 2025-26 school year, the state funding is currently only approved until September 30, 2025. The future beyond that date is still uncertain, pending final decisions from state legislators. We remain hopeful and are monitoring the situation closely. We will send more definitive news once state funding is confirmed. Although our teachers are not officially back to work for another week, the building has been busy with preparations of classrooms in anticipation of welcoming students and families back to school. Have a wonderful weekend; we are eager to see everyone on Wednesday, August 27th at the Open House. With Washington Bulldog Pride, Dana Hepner, Principal
